The carbon fibre housing has a net weight of 3.8 kg and measures 155*155*315 mm in size. It can accommodate a camera up to 200 mm long.
The carbon fibre and epoxy resin composite material used, better known in Formula One and light aircraft manufacturing circles, has the strength of steel with all the advantages of plastic. It is rot proof, durable, and will not be damaged by sea water and UV rays.
The camcorder is operated by a cable and/or infrared remote control in the housing. It is suitable for Sony, Panasonic, Canon und JVC camcorders. All camcorders can be operated with this flexibility. If one wishes to change camcorders during a dive, the controls can simply be switched to the new camcorder as required.
The Negev has a broader range of controls compared to the Gobi because of the greater number of buttons available, which allow access to the camera’s entire menu of options.
The monitor is equipped with a 3.5 “TFT color monitor with high resolution and only this specially developed monitor is available starting from 2017. It can also display the screen data of Sony cameras, which are missing in conventional monitors, and impresses with a larger viewing angle As well as reflection-free pictures with sunshine. This is impressive because of its larger viewing angle and the reflection-free images it achieves in sunlight.
Fitting the camcorder into the underwater housing is very straightforward. It is fixed onto a plate with tripod screws and placed in the centre of the port pane. As with all universal underwater housings, wide angle or macro converters must be fitted to the camcorder lens inside the housing. This means that lenses cannot be changed under water.
The underwater housing has two secured quick release latches for efficient opening and closing of the underwater housing. One main O-ring seals the two halves of the housing. Thanks to innovative lip design, this O-ring does not need to be greased.
Low maintenance involves simple cleaning with water, after which the underwater housing can be simply and safely closed again.
Every single housing manufactured is tested to a standard immersion depth of 80 metres. As with all underwater housings made by BS Kinetics, the tested immersion depth can be increased to 160 metres, without any additional weight gain or change in geometry to the housing being required.
